PHOTO FRIDAY: FRIENDLY FACE IN MADAGASCAR

He may look like he's about to inflict some serious pain on an intrusive photographer, but 70-yr-old Philibert, who worked at the guest house where we stayed, actually had a smile nearly as bright and contagious as the grin on the kid from last week's Photo Friday. 

We caught Philibert in action while he was building a fence out of palm leaves to protect some brand new coconuts he had just planted around the property. If you've got a fence that needs mending or building (or a photographer that needs scaring), this is your man.

FUNNY MONDAY: PHOTO BOMBED BY A CAMEL

We were attempting to take a colorful, overly-dramatic shot of sari-clad women surrounded by tents, camels and dust at the Pushkar Camel Fair in India. Instead, we got photo bombed by a camel with one of the cheesiest grins this side of the Ganges. 

No doubt, he'll be posting this to his Facebook page and Twitter feed as soon as he sees it. Well played, camel, well played.

PHOTO FRIDAY: MILLION KYAT SMILE

An elated Shan woman greets us at a market in the Shan state, Myanmar.

As we've said before, we love markets. Lucky for us, there are plenty of them in Myanmar for us to mill around in (or for Kip to wait while his wife mills or whatever).

In Shan State, women trek miles across mountain trails each week for market day, carrying atop their heads bulging baskets and plastic bags with everything from firewood to vegetables to water buffaloes and elephants carved from local teak. The woman pictured above, who spoke no English but loved to have her photo taken, wears her village's traditional clothing complete with brightly colored terrycloth head scarf.

While her "million kyat smile" didn't quite cost us that many kyat (the local currency, pronounced "chat"), the lady did convince us that we (or more accurately, Kip) needed a few of the wood carved animals she had for sale.
